Bartosz Wolski - US Olympic Sprint Kayaker Ready for Athens

Athens, Greece (August 2, 2004) – Bartosz Wolski was born and raised in Krakow, Poland in April of 1980. Both of his parents were involved in kayaking at a National level from the time he was born, and it was through them that he became interested in the sport. At the young age of 10, Bartosz began training and by the time he turned 13, he was already a National Champion in Poland.

After moving to the United States at the age of 14, he continued kayaking on his own with guidance from his parents. In high school, Bartosz found time to play soccer but focused mainly on kayaking.

In 1997, three years after moving to the States, he placed in the top 7 at the Junior World Championships (best result in history for the USA in this event) and earned a spot in the residency program at the Unites States Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA, where he lived and trained for 7 years. Bartosz has also spent months at a time training at the other two Olympic Training Centers in Lake Placid, NY and Colorado Springs, CO.

This year Bartosz was fortunate enough to make the Olympic Kayak Team and is currently preparing for the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece - where he will pursue his goal of WINNING AN OLYMPIC MEDAL!

Although kayaking is the fastest growing recreational sport in America, many people in the United States are unfamiliar with the discipline of flatwater sprint kayaking and think of either ocean kayaking or whitewater kayaking when it is mentioned. Flatwater sprint racing is a contest of speed, strength and endurance in which athletes compete head to head on calm bodies of water. A course consists of nine lanes, each 9m wide. In support of Bartosz and his Olympic aspirations, DeepBlue has teamed up with other sponsors, including the Home Depot, Oakley, Garden of Life and Plastex Composite to help make his dream a reality.
