We all use social media of one type or the other, so why not use it to promote our business or organization? I asked myself that very question when I relocated my business to San Luis Obispo (SLO), a sleepy little college town on California’s majestic central coast. Being new to town and not knowing a lot of people, we set out to networking at Chamber events and joined several technology MeetUp groups. This was a good start, but we needed a way to connect with local businesses, and as I became better acclimated with the local business culture I knew it was going to be a challenge. You see, SLO was comprised of mostly small, independent businesses – the local real estate agent, your friendly neighborhood divorce lawyer, the cafe where EVERYONE goes for morning meetings. Coming from a major metropolis, I realized that there would need to be adjustments to find acceptance in such a tight-nit community where everybody knows everybody and familiarity is a critical consideration when doing business together.

With over 20 years of experience in serving customers, we have produced strong, measurable results with the 3 marketing strategy services we offer:

Each strategy provides a strong platform for increasing online visibility and connecting with target audiences. Often, our SEM Managers employ all three strategies, combined with analytics, to create a comprehensive and highly effective online marketing strategy.  I have always been enthusiastic about SEO and PPC advertising, but I must admit that Social Media Marketing left me skeptical. A person can get a thousand “likes” for describing their trip to the dry cleaner’s whereas a fundraiser for Fish Odor Syndrome goes unnoticed. Given the challenges, we decided to advertise locally on Facebook as an introduction, promoting a limited-time Home Town Discount bundled service. I was impressed by the targeted effectiveness and saturation, as well as the low cost in comparison to PPC platforms such as Google Ads. Unfortunately, the campaign did not net type of clients we serve, many of whom were better suited for low-cost solutions such as Wix. After a 30-day trial run we shuttered the promotion, opting to focus on PPC and SEO in the San Francisco and Los Angeles metro areas. This tactical shift led to effective results, better connecting us to businesses and organizations that fit our target audience profile.

Although Social Media Marketing was not the best fit for us in this particular situation, it is certainly a force to be reckoned with and and should be explored together with your SEM Manager. From our experience, these are the industries that can benefit the most from Social Media Marketing:

  • Real Estate
  • Entertainment
  • Non Profit
  • Retail
  • Education
  • Restaurant
  • Fashion

If your business or organization falls into any of these categories, we strongly recommend Social Media Marketing as a critical component of your overall digital marketing strategy.
